CHAN 2016: CAF officials arrive in Rwanda for inspection visit

The Confederation of African Football vice president Almamy Kabele Camara, who also the head of CHAN organising committee, arrived in Rwanda on Sunday morning ahead of the second inspection of facilities which will host CHAN 2016 finals tournament.

The four-day visit by CAF officials starts today through Thursday, and will see the delegation tour the facilities that will host the three-week tournament, which is scheduled to begin on  January 16 through February 7.

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, Kabele was received by FERWAFA president Vincent Nzamwita, who also doubles as the chairman CHAN 2016 Local Organising Committee.

Another team led by CAF secretary general, Hicham El Amrani, was expected in the country later on Sunday. Hicham was to be accompanied by IT Director Tarek Deeb, Director of Competition Wally Ismail, Communication Director Junior Salomon Binyam, Inas Fahmy (Services Manager - Responsible Travel / Hospitality and Transportation) and Iman Said (Manager Marketing & TV.)

While in Rwanda, the CAF Inspection team will inspect the  stadiums, training facilities and hotels in the three cities which will host the continental tournament including Kigali, Huye and Rubavu. The arenas to assessed include Amahoro National Stadium and Kigali Regional Stadium, Huye Stadium in the Southern Province and Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu (Western Province), which are under renovation, as well as the training facilities.

The visitors will also hold meetings with the Local Organisation Committee as well as the steering committees before addressing the media on Thursday at FERWAFA headquarters in Remera.

Meanwhile, the draws for the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) final will be held on November 18, in Kigali.

A total of 42 teams that started the preliminary qualification round on June 29 are still in contention for the 15 available slots, to join hosts Rwanda for the finals in Kigali.
