Asante Kotoko striker Yakubu Mohammed has backed Black Stars goalie Fatau Dauda’s call on  CAF to alter the rules for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) to allow more players to play.

The Enyimba FC goalie had called on CAF to permit indigenous players plying their trade on the African continent, but not in their countries of birth, the opportunity to play in the tournament and Yakubu believes it is a great idea.

“That is a great suggestion and I think CAF must take a look at that,” Yakubu affirmed to GHANAsoccernet.

“When that is done, it will offer players who play outside their countries the opportunity to have national caps,” he added.

Fatau’s call was based on the fact that many Ghanaian players are plying their trade in other African countries but are unable to get into the mainstream Black Stars.

But should CAF alter the rules to allow them to feature for their country, Ghana will have great players for the tournament.

Yakubu who is seconding Fatau’s call, added that allowing the other players to play will also help countries like Nigeria and Cameroon.

“Not all of us can play for the mainstream Black Stars so this will be an opportunity for some of our colleague.

“That will also help countries like Nigeria, Cote de I’voire and Cameroon. They have many players playing all over the continent,” he added.

Uganda, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Mali will also have a great squad since they have many players in the top league in Africa including the Egypt Premier League, Tunisia League and the Premier League Soccer in South Africa.

Yakubu had a short stint with Raja Casablanca of Morroco but terminated his contract before joining Asante Kotoko.
