Sapporo: Thailand’s Chanathip Songkrasin has completed his move to Japan’s Consadole Sapporo on an 18-month loan deal from Muangthong United.

The 23-year-old midfielder's move was announced last December and he will be the first Thai player to feature in the J. League in its current format.

“I am ready for a new challenge. I want to fulfil my dream,” said Chanathip.

“I am not going there for a holiday. I want to prove myself at Consadole Sapporo. Few people in Japan know me, so it will be good for me focus on football.”

Chanathip was a key factor in Muangthong United’s 2017 AFC Champions League campaign, despite the team not advancing to the quarter-finals.

The young Thai is looking forward to strengthening Shuhei Yomoda’s side as the Sapporo-based club sit 15th in the 18-club league, with the bottom three facing relegation.

“I want to help them stay up. I want to make a difference to the team and help them improve.”
