Sapporo: Thailand’s Chanathip Songkrasin has moved to Japan’s Consadole Sapporo on a 18-month loan from Muangthong United.
The 23-year-old midfielder will be the first Thai player in the J.League - Japan’s highest division football tournament - in its current format.
“I am ready for a new challenge. I want to fulfil my dream,” said Songkrasin.
“I am not going there for a holiday. I want to prove myself at Consadole Sapporo. Few people in Japan know me, so it will be good for me focus on football.”
Songkrasin was a key factor in Muangthong United’s 2017 AFC Champions League campaign, despite the team not advancing to the quarter-finals.
The young Thai is looking forward to strengthening Shuhei Yomoda’s side as the Sapporo-based club sit 15th in the 18-club league, with the bottom three facing relegation.
“I want to help them stay up. I want to make a difference to the team and help them improve.”
