'Charismatic' ex-Ghana sports minister Afriyie-Ankrah breaks down in tears at World Cup Commission hearing
Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah

Embattled ex- Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah could not hold back his tears as he emotionally  recounted incidents which led to Ghana’s disastrous World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Mr Ankrah is being quizzed by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry as to what led to the decision of the Black Stars players to boycott training ahead of the third group game against Portugal.

The often energetic and charismatic minister was extremely emotional as he recounted how the players held the nation to ransom, refusing to train ahead of the final group game against the European powerhouse.

GHANAsoccernet.com's Ameenu Shardow reports the ex minister looked emotionally drained.

"He said he was devastated to find out the players didn’t train for two sessions," Shardow said

"He was getting highly emotional with few drops of tears.  At some point the chairman of the commission asked him to take it easy.

"It's been an emotional-filled day and the days ahead will also help to make the picture much clearer."

Proceedings have just ended.
