Charles Takyi has broken his silence over a reported move to promoted German Bundesliga side Augsburg in the summer.

Augsberg coach Andreas Rettig was a huge admirer of the midfielder and had wanted to whisk him away from the club.

St Pauli's relegation from the Bundesliga comes in conjunction with Augsburg's promotion to the top flight

It was feared the Hamburg-based club may struggle to hold onto Takyi.

But Rettig was put off by a £600,000 price tag on him.

Takyi has revealed he never wanted to leave the club.

"I've always enjoyed playing for St. Pauli. I never said that I want to leave. I want to play for regularly to get a place in the Ghana national team. There is nothing wrong over here," the 26-year-old said.

"It's now time for a fresh start. I'm here at at St. Paul with my head and heart."
