Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain on Napoli striker alert

Published on: 24 February 2016

Gonzalo Higuain’s spectacular form this season has turned the heads of many top European clubs, although only Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain appear able to match the Napoli striker’s lucrative release clause.

The Argentine forward has already scored 24 Serie A goals this season, and looks seemingly set to be the first Napoli player to claim the Capocannoniere title since Edinson Cavani, and only the third ever.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Higuain and his father are trying to negotiate a new deal with the Partenopei, that would potentially see his release clause reduced from the current fee of €94.5 million.

It is not thought that the former Real Madrid man is unhappy with his current club, but as both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are the only clubs willing or able to pay that fee. Both have expressed an interest in the player, but his options would be limited should he prefer to move elsewhere.

Currently, the talks are frozen, and with Higuain under contract until 2018 there is no immediate rush to come to an agreement.
