Chelsea boss ready to rush back Essien

Published on: 19 April 2010

English side Chelsea are ready to rush Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien back to action to help them win the Premier League title.

The Blues suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend which means their lead at the top has been cut to just one point.

With just three matches remaining Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti wants Essien to return to action to help the side maintain their slender lead over Manchester United.

Ancelotti also hopes Michael Essien will play again before the end of the season.

"We hope Essien will be back before the end of the season," Ancelotti said.

"It's very exciting, I always said it will be decided in the last game, until then it will be a fight."

Even though Chelsea are keen to see the Ghanaian midfield powerhouse return to boost their title chances, there could be negative consequences for the Black Stars.

Essien was rushed back from injury to play for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola but he could only play few minutes as he further aggravated the injury.

The injury has kept him out since January. Rushing him back could lead to similar problems with just about six weeks to the World Cup in South Africa.
