Chelsea boss Mourinho hints at imminent Blues return for on-loan Atsu
Christian Atsu is loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that their on-loan Ghanaian midfielder Christian Atsu will return to the club in the summer to fight for a place in next season's team.

The Portuguese manager says he will give the chance to his on-loan youngsters to prove that they can steal a first team place at Chelsea.

The Blues have several youngsters on loan to other clubs particularly Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem where Atsu has been farmed out to, to hone his career.

Atsu joined Chelsea from Portuguese giants Porto in the summer but was immediately loaned out to the Dutch club for playing time.

Chelsea have 29 players on loan and Mourinho says he will use the pre-season to closely observe players like Atsu to see if they will fit in his plans for next season.

"Our loan players will be here in the beginning of July. It’s a fantastic period for us to make the right decisions,” Mourinho said.

“I will have a fantastic time because I’ll be with them (on-loan players) 15 days, training, playing matches.

“I can make decisions. It gives us time to make decisions. We’re not going to loan players in May or June.

“I think the next pre-season is a fantastic period for me to know them really well and for them to know the way I work and the way I coach.”

With Atsu likely to play for Ghana at the World Cup, his chances of impressing Mourinho will be boosted if he excels at the tournament in Brazil in June.
