Chelsea legend Michael Essien has given a ringing endorsement of Baba Rahman's move to the Blues by wishing his fellow Ghanaian the best of luck as the defender begins his career at the English Premier League side.

The 21-year-old left-back moved to Stamford Bridge on Sunday after just one season at German Bundesliga club Augsburg.

Baba becomes the third Ghanaian to play for the Blues after Essien and Marcel Desailly who both excelled at the Premier League club and attained legendary status.

The left-back is expected to make his debut for the Blues this weekend when they play West Brom in their Premier League encounter.

Essien, who currently plays for Greek giants Panathinaikos, gave the defender a massive boost to the start of his Blues career by sending him a classy message on Twitter which has proven popular.

"Wishing my country man @babarahmangh the very best of luck @ChelseaFC all the best my friend," Essien wrote on the social media website.

Baba arrived in London on Tuesday after getting his visa to England from the UK embassy in Germany where he was based.

The talented Ghanaian is hoping to hit the ground running with a first team place in their match against West Brom.

Abdul Baba Rahman won 77/115 headers in the Bundesliga last season.

Baba can attain legendary status for the English champions if he emulates Essien's performances for the West London side since he joined the club in 2005.

Essien joined Chelsea from French side Lyon and had a glittering and memorable nine-year spell with the Blues.

He was part of the side that two of the four league titles Chelsea have won four FA Cups and one Champions League trophy.

In the latter part of his Chelsea career, Essien was rocked with several knee injuries before joining Real Madrid, AC Milan and Panathinaikos.
