Chelsea need leaders: Why Drogba & Lampard must come back

Published on: 27 November 2015

COMMENT: One of the best things I think Chelsea could do is bring in leaders.

The departure of Petr Cech and Didier Drogba has been shown up this season. It is no coincidence that Chelsea were doing badly as soon as two of the dressing room leaders depart. Drogba and Cech did not play a massive part on the pitch last season, but it was clear to see that the players looked up to them.

Eden Hazard looked up to Drogba last season and he helped get the best form out of him. Now look at Hazard, he is a shadow of his former self. This goes for most of the team as well. This is why Chelsea would be best trying to convince Drogba to return... And at a push maybe even Frank Lampard.

Lampard in particular I feel was harshly let go. There were reports that he turned down a contract, but Lampard confirmed himself that if he was offered a contract then he would have signed it. Add to the fact that his Chelsea goodbye was a disgrace.

The club knew he was leaving but didn't tell the fans. For his final game everybody booed and left at full time instead of waiting for the end of season lap of honour.

As for Drogba, there are reports he might train with Chelsea. Why not give him the option of playing too?

Both players I feel can still make a difference in the Premier League. Drogba's replacement for this season was Radamel Falcao, who's actually scored less goals than Drogba did last season. Besides, it's not like the strikers are firing on all cylinders is it?

Another player I would like Chelsea to try and sign is Ron Vlaar. He is a free agent and Manchester United were after him not too long ago. I don't see why we couldn't approach him. It's not like we can do much worse defensively this season.

Even Papy Djilobodji, who was brought in on the last day of the market totally out of the blue, hasn't even been seen. Jose Mourinho even said he had no idea about him joining Chelsea. The club is currently a shambles on and off the pitch.

If there's anything positive to take out of our terrible season, it will hopefully be that the plastics leave and don't come back. I'm also glad that, although not confirmed, it would appear that the club have realised and admitted to their mistakes, and managed to blame themselves instead of the manager.

If true, this is to their credit and good of them.

Up The Chels.
