Branislav Ivanovic has the worst performance score of any Chelsea defender so far this season in the league

Chelsea’s latest signing Abdul Baba Rahman will be thrown straight into the starting XI in place of Branislav Ivanovic during this weekend’s West Brom away tie, according to the Mirror.

The £21.7 million (fee via aforementioned source) acquisition from Augsburg is expected to make his Premier League debut for the Blues against the Baggies this Saturday.

Right-back Ivanovic will be dropped for the fixture following an underwhelming start to the season, with Cesar Azpilicueta looking likely to switch from his usual left-back position.

The Serbian international has looked off the boil since the campaign commenced. In the Premier League Champions’ opening-day draw with Swansea City he endured a difficult time up against pacey winger Jefferson Montero and then, in the recent 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad, the 31-year-old’s mistake late on gifted Fernandinho the third goal of the game.

Meanwhile, hopes are high for Baba Rahman following his big-money move to Stamford Bridge and judging by last campaign in the Bundesliga, it is no wonder.

The Ghana international was one of the league’s stand-out performers and helped his side to an impressive fifth-place finish which, in turn, guaranteed them qualification for this season’s Europa League.
