Chelsea target Richmond Boakye Yiadom on the rise

Ghanaian international, Richmond Boakye Yiadom, has suddenly become one of the most sought after Ghanaian players abroad with English Premier League side, Chelsea, reported to be interested in his services.

His upward trajectory onto the international scene has come as a surprise to many less than a year after he was offloaded by Atalanta to Latina in the Serbia league.

Yiadom’s career path would be considered as one of a humble beginning, having calved a niche for himself while playing for local club, Bechem United.

The journey of the former Ghana Under -20 player first took him to Serie A side Genoa in Europe before moving to European giants, Juventus, but has been a blast with Serbian outfit, Red Star Belgrade, since joining them on a loan spell in 2016 which has seen him netting 24 times in 28 appearances.

After several loan spells journeying through clubs such as Sassaulo, Elche, Roda JC Kerkrade and Latina, the 24-year-old Ghanaian forward finally discovered his form with the Eastern European club where he has remained consistent for Belgrade in both the Super Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

His clinical upfront has seen him score eight goals in his 10 games for Belgrade this season, making the former Bechem United goal poacher the subject of a proposed move to European giants Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.

Yiadom has, however, welcomed a move to Stamford Bridge as he looks forward to reunite with former boss, Antonio Conte, under whom he played at Juventus during his time with the Italian side.

The Belgrade star has six goals to his credit in his last two matches and this seem to be whetting the appetite of many other European clubs on alert for a possible move during the January transfer window.

At 24, he is definitely up for greatness if he can continue with his splendid form for Belgrade, especially when most clubs will be looking to strengthen their squad in January.

Yiadom's agent, Oliver Arthur, of Arthur Legacy, has revealed his commitment to ensure his player move from the Serbian top flight by securing him a deal in one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

No wonder his outstanding displays has caught the eyes of Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, who invited him for his side's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Congo where he scored a brace in their 5-1 victory.

That impressed Coach Appiah who gave him a second chance by inviting him for the final World Cup qualifier against Egypt in Cape Coast last month.

It is, however, clear that with continuous stellar performances, Yiadom will be up for a place in the Stars squad that will feature in next year's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
