CHELSEA sealed their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Kevin-Prince Boateng's German giants Schalke on Tuesday night.

The Ghana international was unimpressive as he was substituted in the 63rd minute of the match but they still ended with humiliation.

Jose Mourinho's side came to Gelsenkirchen looking for the victory which would to seal their place in the next round of the tournament and see them top their group.

And they made the perfect start to the match in the 2nd minute when John Terry got on the end of a corner from Cesc Fabregas and headed home to ease his team-mates nerves.

The visitors continued to pile the pressure on the hosts, and were rewarded for their efforts on the half-hour mark when Willian latched onto a through-ball from Fabregas and fired the ball low and hard past Ralf Fahrmann.

The game was well and truly put to bed moments before the half-time whistle when Jan Kirkoff accidentally converted a corner from Fabregas.

Schalke began the second period a lot better than they did the first, but they failed to create any clear chances.

As the second half wore on they began pressing more and more but exposed on the counter-attack twice in the space of two minutes.

Subsitute Didier Drogba added the fourth goal in the 75th minute and moments later Ramires rubbed more salt into the German's wounds when he converted a cross from his Ivorian team-mate.

The victory for the Blues means Mourinho's side top the group and will avoid facing tougher opponent in the next round of the competition.
