Head coach of German side Augsburg says he is proud of Chelsea’s vigorous interest in defender Baba Rahman as the English giants close in on a deal.

Rahman-21-years is on the verge of sealing a five year deal with the English Champions for a fee around £21m.

Chelsea have not hidden their intention to buy a left back to replace Filipe Luis who has left back to Athletico Madrid and Mourinho has made the Ghana international his first choice to come in.

With the two teams finally agreeing a deal for the transfer of the promising youngster head, coach Markus Weinzierl, says Rahman’s progress is a testament to the clubs work.

“I would like to continue working with all players, but when you sign someone like Baba from the second division and he's on Chelsea's radar 12 months later it does make the coaching staff proud,” Markus Weinzierl told kicker

“It's striking that, after Matthias Ostrzolek, our left-back is interesting other clubs for the second consecutive year," Weinzierl said. "That's down to our style of play. We are very active on the full-back positions, and the left-back profits from the good teammates on his side."

Augsburg have already brought in Philipp Max from Karlsruher SC to replace Rahman, although the Ghanian played 120 minutes as the club narrowly avoided a DFB Pokal upset against SV Elversberg on Friday.
