The Ghana League clubs association, a welfare body of clubs in the premier, Division one, and Division two of Ghana, which was once a formidable body that could oust a chairman of the Ghana Football Association has suddenly become a "sleeping giant" and nearly lost its relevance to exist, the welfare body which should have been standing for the right of clubs, now seem non existing.
Indeed the composition of GHALCA executives which has seen its chairman become clubless, its vice whose club was relegated seasons ago, and other members who have lost their voice in the happenings of the game has become worrying.
GHALCA has failed to state its position on the current state of the game whiles its chairman was recently busy engaging the President of the FA in personal "war" of words.
GHALCA whose member is directly battling the GFA, a case which is having adverse effect on the rest of the members is neither helping matters.
The recent posture of GHALCA does not reflect the objectives of the welfare body.
*STATE OF GHALCA:* It is an undeniable fact that, a "Headless chicken" cannot stand, and that is exactly how GHALCA finds itself, many of the Executives are only administrators and Accra Representatives of clubs whose owners or Chief Executive officers are on the executive Committee of the GFA. The composition of the GHALCA executives clearly demonstrates a group that are not part of the power brokers of Ghana Football.
Right from the vice chairman, Alex Ackumey, premier league reps John Ansah and George Ofosuhene of, Ebusua Dwarfs and WAFA, Otuo Acheampong “Sometimer” from Division One, and Samuel Aboabire from division two, with PLB vice chairman George Amoako as their treasurer does not inspire neither do they give hope to the clubs.
*WAYFORWARD* In the prevailing circumstances, GHALCA can only be relevant and have a say if its leadership change, (Not in person but in rank) and the entire welfare body changed to entertain club owners. Club owners must take over the running of their own welfare body, one can imagine decisions that will be taken when club owners like Otumfour Osei Tutu, Nana Agyeman Badu, Togbe Afede, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Nana Achiken, Chief Brigidi, Nana Adu, Kwesi Nyantekyi, Moses Armah, etc meet to decide on the fate of the game to which they are spending their hard earned monies.
It is only when GHALCA become relevant that the game can also see it's fortunes changes, Ghana"s neighbors Nigeria went same path when club owners formed association to watch over the FA and the league management, club in owners cannot sit somewhere and expect that all will be well. They must be able to take decisions that will see positives in their resources.
