Chinese Super League spending overtakes English Premier League

Beijing: The Chinese Super League has splashed out an incredible €258.9million in the winter transfer window so far, surging past the big-spending English Premier League for the first time.

Here are the top five deals:

February 5: Jiangsu snare Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira (pictured) for €50million. Teixeira, 26, scored 89 goals in 223 matches for Ukranian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, and was previously reported to be on Liverpool's radar.

February 3: Colombian international Jackson Martinez signs with Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande from Atletico Madrid for €42 million.

January 27: Chelsea sell their Brazilian midfielder Ramires to Jiangsu for €28million. The 28-year-old Champions' League winner promptly found the back of the net with a volley on his debut in a friendly against Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala.

January 21: Guangzhou Evergrande sell their Brazilian top scorer Elkeson to rivals Shanghai SIPG for as much as €20million, a rare trade of a foreign star between two Chinese teams.

January 26: Roma forward Gervinho signs with Hebei Fortune for a reported €18 million. The Ivorian had been having a disappointing season in Italy, with only six league goals to his name, and rumours swirling over his future after the departure of coach Rudi Garcia.
