Mexico’s Chivas Guadalajara won the CONCACAF Champions League with a tense penalty shoot-out win over Toronto FC on Wednesday, to end a 56-year wait for their second continental crown.

Chivas survived a tough examination at home with the aggregate score tied at 3-3, before claiming eventually victory and a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018.

Chivas commenced with a hard-won advantage after a 2-1 win in Canada last week, and they put one hand on the trophy after Orbelin Pineda opened the scoring on 19 minutes.

However, Toronto drew level on the night through Jozy Altidore just six minutes later, before Sebastian Giovinco blew the tie wide open with a second for the visitors moments before half-time.

Substitute Jesus Godinez hit the post midway through the second half for Chivas but the score remained unchanged, with the final going straight to penalties after 90 minutes.

Jonathan Osorio missed to put Toronto behind early on, before Michael Bradley also failed to convert leaving the home side 4-2 victors on spot-kicks.
