Ex-Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng insists Christian Atsu is Abedi Pele’s heir apparent.

The former Fulham man believes the on-loan Bournemouth winger has the attributes to drive the Black Stars like the three-time African Footballer of the Year did during his playing days.

Boateng saw Atsu come through the ranks and played with him at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

For him, the 22-year-old’s dexterity makes him a unique player in the current Black Stars squad.

“Atsu is a great player who needs support from Ghanaians and the players around him. The guy is a good and very humble, very fast with the ball, quick and he really needs help because this boy has everything,” Boateng disclosed this to Graphic Sports.

“If you see how Abedi Pele played, we have never seen any player like that apart from him Atsu in that position. If we can help this boy, I think he can be our next Abedi Pele in Ghana, trust me because this guy is really good.”

Atsu was named the Most Valuable Player at the last Nations Cup finals in Equatorial Guinea.
