Club African defender Nicholas Opoku hugely impressed on his competitive debut for the Black Stars in their  goalless draw against Uganda in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kampala on Saturday.

The former Berekum Chelsea guardsman played full throttle as the Black Stars held the Cranes of Uganda to a 0-0 stalemate at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

The 19-year-old centre back showed great composure at the back on his maiden partnership with stand-in captain Daniel Amartey.

Opoku made his debut for the Black Stars in July when he came on for the injured Rashid Sumaila in the 38th minute of the 2-1 friendly loss against USA in Connecticut.

He was a member of the Ghana U20 which failed to qualify for the 2017 African Youth Championship.
