Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu has hailed Abieku Ainooson for his extraordinary mentality during the CHAN tournament.

The Asante Kotoko defender was not picked for the opening games during the tournament hosted in South Africa.

Ainooson was given his chance at the latter stages of Ghana’s campaign which ended with silver medal after the final defeat to Libya.

The ex New Edubiase player impressed whenever he was given the opportunity to play and won the Man-of-the-Match award after the semi final win over Nigeria.

It is however the immense mentality of the Asante Kotoko player that won the heart of his coach during the tournament.

“Abeiku Ainooson was the best player in camp in terms of his mentality,” Konadu said in an extensive interview with Metro FM.

“This boy is able to psyche himself up and to the level it affects his colleagues.

“Even when he wasn’t getting opportunities, his mentality was still up there.

“He was always bubbly and always cracking jokes because he was assured within himself that his opportunity will come.

“And when the opportunity came, he took it and performed very well.”
