Rennes defender John Boye makes a return to international duty for Ghana after he was confirmed in the 21-man squad to face Montenegro in next month’s pre-World Cup friendly.

Boye last played for the Black Stars five months when he captained the team to lose to Japan in a friendly.

But he picked up an injury and was sidelined for months and underwent surgery to correct a pubis problem.

The 26-year-old played returned to action two weeks ago when he lasted the entire duration of Rennes’ 1-0 win at Auxerre in the Coupe de France.

He followed it up with a 90 minutes of football against Nantes on Sunday-it was his second Ligue 1 appearance of the season.

Ghana coach Appiah wants to assess the fitness of the centre-back as he finalizes his squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana’s friendly against Montenegro will be played in Podgorica on 5 March.
