CONFIRMED: Stoke boss Mark Hughes could swoop for Ghana star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu
Agyemang-Badu's agent is in talks with Stoke City over the move

Stoke City manager MARK HUGHES has lined-up Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu as Steven Nzonzi's replacement at the English top-flight side, his agent has confirmed.

Ghana's leading football news outlet www.ghanasoccernet.com exclusively revealed on Monday that the Potters are in talks to sign the Italy-based midfielder.

Potters boss Hughes will pay Serie A side Udinese £4.4m for Agyemang-Badu, who wants to further his career in the Premier League after spending six seasons in Italy.

Hughes paved the way for Agyemang-Badu's arrival at the Britannia by holding talks over personal terms with the player and his agent, Papa Agyemang, at City's Clayton Wood training complex.

Agyemang said: "We started talks after arriving in England over the weekend seeking to seal a deal.

"Spent the day at Stoke's training ground, and the Ghanaian international is on their radar. Hopefully, they move on it."

Top flight new boys Watford are also in the hunt to sign Agyemang-Badu, who cost Udinese a bargain £450,000 from Ghanaian side Bekarum in January 2010.

But Hughes is confident of winning the race for his signature after piloting the Potters to back-to-back top 10 finishes in the Premier League.

Hughes is holding crunch talks with Nzoni this week in a last-ditch bid to persuade the former Blackburn star to sign a new deal and stay at Stoke.

But he fears he is fighting a losing battle and is resigned to losing the French midfielder, who is wanted by Paris St-Germain, Sevilla and Leicester.
