Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as Real Madrid ran out 6-3 winners over Girona at the Bernabeu.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner notched his 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th goals of 2018, which is five more than any other player in Europe's top five leagues, and he wasted little time against the Catalans on Sunday.

In the 11th minute, the former Manchester United man coolly swept home Toni Kroos' low cross from the centre of the box to give Real a 1-0 lead.

Cristhian Stuani equalised in the 29th minute before Ronaldo answered just after the break with another goal from inside the box.

Ronaldo played provider for Real's third -- unselfishly laying off for Lucas Vazquez to slot home in the 59th minute after a Karim Benzema cross found him with space in the area.

Ronaldo completed his 34th career La Liga hat trick five minutes later, just before Stuani bagged his brace.

Second-half substitute Gareth Bale scored Real's fifth with a fine finish after a Luka Modric through ball four minutes from time.

Girona answered two minutes later through defender Juanpe, who headed home from Alex Granell's corner kick.

And Ronaldo rounded off a memorable afternoon with a header in stoppage time to complete the scoring.
