The 21-year-old was handed his first start since joining the Blues in their comprehensive 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League.

Baba, after enduring a jittery start eventually came into his own to give an assured performance while finishing the game with 91% pass accuracy.

The performance of the £21m signing has received worldwide praise with Rahman’s name one of the most trending subjects on social media – especially Twitter - on Wednesday night.

Baba Rahman’s Ghana teammate Kwesi Appiah who is still recuperating from injury also joined in praising the left-back while hinting there was more to come.

“Congratulations on your Chelsea Debut @babarahmangh  ? ?. Good win too. More to come!!” Appiah Tweeted.

Rahman has now put himself right in the mix for first team selection in Chelsea’s next game against Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend.

Manager Jose Mourinho noted he would be making changes to his side as he looks to revive the club’s dwindling fortunes at the start of the season.
