Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic told fans to forget about Asamoah Gyan after Emmanuel Emenike netted twice in a 2-0 win away to Al Wasl in the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker blasted Mohammad Amerââ¬â¢s cross in at the back post after the interval and completed his brace by turning his marker to bury Ryan Babelââ¬â¢s pass after the hour.
Question marks had surrounded Emenikeââ¬â¢s ability to replace Ghanaian three-time league top scorer Asamoah Gyan, who left for Chinaââ¬â¢s Shanghai SIPG this summer, but after this performance Dalic spoke to quell the comparisons.
ââ¬ÅWe have to forget about Gyan, he left and now we must see a future with Emenike,â⬠said the Croatian. ââ¬ÅEmenike got two goals in the Super Cup [in a 4-2 win over Al Nasr last month] and now heââ¬â¢s got another two goals here. We must be happy. It will be a hard job to replace Gyan but heââ¬â¢s scoring goals and heââ¬â¢s doing his job.ââ¬
