Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic told fans to forget about Asamoah Gyan after Emmanuel Emenike netted twice in a 2-0 win away to Al Wasl in the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) on Sunday.

The Nigerian striker blasted Mohammad Amer’s cross in at the back post after the interval and completed his brace by turning his marker to bury Ryan Babel’s pass after the hour.

Question marks had surrounded Emenike’s ability to replace Ghanaian three-time league top scorer Asamoah Gyan, who left for China’s Shanghai SIPG this summer, but after this performance Dalic spoke to quell the comparisons.

“We have to forget about Gyan, he left and now we must see a future with Emenike,” said the Croatian. “Emenike got two goals in the Super Cup [in a 4-2 win over Al Nasr last month] and now he’s got another two goals here. We must be happy. It will be a hard job to replace Gyan but he’s scoring goals and he’s doing his job.”
