Daniel Adjei's lone strike secures league title for TP Mazembe

Ghanaian midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei was the hero for TP Mazembe as his lone goal secured the club's second successive DRC league title against rivals AS Vita in Kamalondi, Lubumbashi on Wednesday.

Adjei scored early in the opening minutes to settle the tie and hand the Ravens their 16th title before a fully packed Stade Mazembe Stadium.

Heading into the hotly contested clash, the teams were joint top of the 7-team playoffs standings on thirty points, and were only separated on goal difference.

A win for any could have secured the title, however, even a draw would have been enough to hand Mazembe the title as they enjoyed a superior goal difference.

Vita, who failed to rise to the occasion, finish second and will have to wait for another season to challenge for a 13th title. Nonetheless, the Kinshasa based side sealed a slot in next year’s CAF Champions alongside Mazembe.

This becomes Nii Adjei's third Congolese championship title since joining from Ghanaian outfit Asante Kotoko in 2013.

Meanwhile, his counterparts Solomon Asante and Yaw Frimpong all featured prominently for the Lubumbashi-based club during the season.
