Ghana defender Daniel Opare has no regrets about leaving Real Madrid four years ago.

The 23-year-old left the Spanish giants in 2010 after spending four years with the youth team.

The Ghanaian international joined the European heavyweights after his incredible performance for the West African country at the 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Youth Championship in South Korea.

With prospects of breaking into the first team looking slim, the Ghana international signed a three-year contract with Belgium side Standard Liege.

He has since been a key figure for the Belgian outfit and played an influential in Ghana’s qualification to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The ex-Ashantigold versatile player has revealed he has no regret about leaving the Santiago Bernabéu.

“I have no regret about leaving Real Madrid at all. At that time it was the wisest decision to take,” Opare told Happy FM

“Here at Standard Liege, I’m playing in week-in, week-out and so it’s good for me.

“I’m enjoying my game here and focused on the club.

"As for Real Madrid I have no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision to leave at the time.”

Opare was recognized by World Soccer Magazine as one of the 50 Most Exciting Teenagers on the Planet in their November 2007 edition with his incredible foot speed and precise crossings.
