David Moyes has been given the sack by Manchester United for obviously underperforming but I just can’t believe why Mohammed Polo remains at post at Hearts of Oak, writes GHANAsoccernet.com’s Ameenu Shardow.
Moyes was picked by the ‘Great One’ Alex Ferguson following his memorable 27-year reign at Old Trafford.
But just 10-months into his new high-pressured job as boss of the Reds, the former Everton manager is given the sack and rightfully so.
Moyes won 27 of the 51 games he presided over as Manchester United boss, drawing nine and losing a staggering 15 with a 52.94 percent winning rate.
United could have waited until the end of the season to let go of the Scot but strategically pulled the plug now with just four matches left to the end of the season and for good reasons.
I mean why wait to get rid of someone who is clearly underperforming – by which times things might get all but certainly worse – than to let go of him now to freshen the mood and atmosphere around the club?
It gives the club sometime to adjust to the imminent changes while the players are fully aware ahead of time – before heading out on summer breaks and the World Cup that they will be returning to base with a new man at the helm.
Contrast Moyes’ predicaments to that of Mohammed Polo at Hearts of Oak and there is an even more compelling case to get the ex Ghana star out with alacrity.
Polo has played 15 games, won five, drawn two and lost an unthinkable eight within just four months of his appointment.
Polo’s winning rate stands at 33.33 percent – total failure – and yet still he remains in the job now even though he is a ‘gonner’ at the end of the season. Football is truly unfair. The irony here however is that the Phobians got the right man in David Duncan but sacked him to pick someone who is per the facts far inferior. He however remains in the job.
The bright side to Hearts’ predicaments however is unlike Manchester United, the Phobians are still in with a chance to making a return to the Champions League – albeit one coveted and the other nearly rubbish if you consider the incentives alone.
Polo must simply go but crucially must go NOW!!!
