New Inter boss Frank De Boer has said he shares the same hopes of returning to the Champions League as the Italian club.
The Nerazzurri have brought in the Dutch tactician to replace recently departed Roberto Mancini, and they haven’t reached Europe’s top club competition since 2011.
“Inter is a club with a great history and they want to return to the Champions League, which is also my own ambition,” De Boer told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The 46-year-old went on to discuss his lack of doubt when joining the Serie A side, despite having others offers from around the continent.
“When Inter called me I did not think twice, the situation was perfect,” he said.
“At first I was a bit surprised by this interest because some other Italian clubs have contacted me and then gone on to employ Italian coaches.
“I thought my future would be somewhere else because I had contacts with some English clubs, with [Belgian side] Anderlecht and also with [Turkish club] Olympiacos.
“When I realised that Inter were serious, however, I chose them immediately.”
