Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez missed a second-half penalty as Espanyol rode their luck to earn a goalless draw at the Riazor and deny the hosts a first win since mid-December.
Depor had lost their opening two matches under new boss Clarence Seedorf, but will feel they did more than enough to beat Espanyol after creating a host of chances.
The best one came in the 65th minute when Perez was brought down inside the area by Esteban Granero, but the on-loan Arsenal forward saw his spot-kick superbly saved one-handed by Diego Lopez diving to his right.
Perez's strike partner Florin Andone wasted a similarly gilt-edged chance in the 77th minute when he powered a close-range header against the crossbar, while Depor also hit the woodwork through Fede Cartabia in the first half.
Depor deserved more but the result means they have now taken just three points from their last 10 games, and they remain stuck in the relegation zone.
