Di Francesco: Sassuolo showed desire against Fiorentina

Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco believes his team played with desire despite losing 3-1 to Fiorentina on Sunday.

The Neroverdi levelled the score in the second half, and after seeing his team conceding a goal straight after, the Sassuolo tactician admitted that Fiorentina were the stronger side on the day.

“We did not play badly, far from it,” Di Francesco told Radio RAI. “The reaction after conceding and the desire was there for everyone to see.

“We were naive on the second goal, however, but we have to remember that we played against a team with great quality and we were missing a few key players.”

Near the end of the match, Fiorentina extended their lead after Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli scored a comical own goal but Di Francesco did not criticise his goalkeeper, believing that the error was down to bad luck.

“It is a shame that Andrea made that error. He did not deserve it,” Di Francesco concluded.
