Division One League Board chairman Owoahene Acheampong believes have military men at the stadium will curb hooliganism at league matches.

There has been a recent increase in the number of violent cases especially in the second-tier league.

Last Sunday, a referee got beaten up severely by fans for King Solomon FC after officiating their 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics.

Sampson Azumah was later rushed to the hospital and had his head wound stitched.

The previous weekend, a policeman accidentally fired a rubber bullet into the league of the coach of Tamale Utretcht in an attempt to disperse rowdy fans.

Acheampong says the Police are not enough to arrest and prosecuting thugs and trusts the military will do a better job.

“The inability of the police to arrest the culprits and prosecute them, it emboldens them to do what they are doing because they know that after they have beaten up the referees, nothing will happen,” he told Joy Sports.

“I think the police are to blame for what is happening.

“I must be honest to admit that in certain police jurisdictions, they don’t have the personnel.

“The police is our first stop in terms of our security matters. It is about time the military are drawn into it.”
