Does Patrick Twumasi's two-goal Celtic display explain Brendan Rodgers' reported interest?

Celtic are reportedly interested in Patrick Twumasi - who scored twice against them for Astana in the Champions League qualifiers.

Patrick Twumasi was a man on a mission as Astana prepared to face off against Celtic in a Champions League qualifier for the second season running.

But while Celtic once again knocked their Kazakhstani opponents out at the final hurdle, Ghanaian striker Twumasi certainly left his mark on Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish champions.

Celtic cruised to a 5-0 first-let win at Parkhead but Astana, inspired by their 23-year-old talisman, gave Rodgers and co an almighty scare a week later. Nodding home unmarked at the start of the second half before netting a brilliant individual goal 20 minutes later, Twumasi’s clinical brace fired Astana into a 4-1 lead.

A late Celtic duo killed off the tie but The Bhoys were battered and bruised by the lethal Twumasi. And it appears that he has left an impression on Rodgers too.

Because Ghana Sports Online claims that Twumasi has emerged as a potential transfer target for Celtic in the January transfer window. And it is surely his rampant second-leg performance that has encouraged Celtic to eye him up.

The twice-capped Ghanaian has scored 14 goals in total this season, including three in the Europa League group-stages. Blessed with athleticism and a clinical finish, he is also the kind of young, under-the-radar talent that Celtic tend to uncover plying his trade in one of Europe’s smaller leagues.

And if Twumasi could be as good for Celtic as he was against them, there’s no reason to believe he would not be a roaring success in Scottish football.
