Alfonso Donnarumma, the father of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, has revealed that the 16-year-old almost joined city rivals Inter as a youngster.

Donnarumma joined the Rossoneri youth team setup in 2013, however his father admits that he was only hours away from joining the Nerazzurri.

“He was very close to signing for Inter, but then everything suddenly changed.” said Donnarumma’s father to Tuttosport.

“His love for Milan meant that he joined the team he wanted to.

“The hours before he signed were frantic, but eventually he got to sign for the team that has been in his heart since he was a kid, and now he is a realising a dream that he had as a child.”

This season Donnarumma has impressed many observers of Serie A with his calm and assuring presence as Milan’s last line of defence.
