Dortmund\'s tennis ball protest

Published on: 10 February 2016

Borussia Dortmund again staged a protest against rising ticket prices, this time during the clubs 3-1 win at Stuttgart on Tuesday night.

Dortmund fans boycotted the first 20 minutes at Stuttgarts's Mercedes-Benz Arena and then later threw tennis balls onto the pitch to interrupt the match. The tennis balls symbolise the fact that football fans are not as rich as tennis fans and the sport should not become elitist. Fans were angered at tickets for last nights match being priced â‚¬19.50 and up and staged a similar protest in 2012 when the cheapest ticket for Dortmund's match at Hamburg was €40.
