Goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama lost his dad on the same day he was sent off in Burkina Faso’s 4-0 thrashing of Ethiopia, it has been revealed.

The Asante Kotoko glovesman has since left the Burkina camp to be with his family during this difficult period.

The 33-year-old was red carded for handling the ball outside his penalty area during the massive win over Ethiopia on Friday.

It has however been revealed that officials hid the news of the unfortunate death from Soulama for fear of breaking his concentration in the crucial game.

The sad news was however communicated to the goalkeeper moments after his sending off which sees him suspended for three matches – effectively ending his participation at the Nations Cup in South Africa.

Soulama has been extremely impressive for Burkina Faso until receiving his marching orders on Friday.

He will however take solace in the impressive performance of his team as they went on the rampage to tear apart Ethiopia after his expulsion.
