Namibia authorities have expressed confidence that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa will not dampen the country’s resolve to successfully host the African Women’s Championship which starts on Saturday.

The competition takes place as the continent battles with the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa, with Nigeria one of the country that was affected by the disease.

But Nigeria, together with Senegal were given a clean bill of health as Ebola-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) this past week.

Meanwhile, the Namibian Football Association officials have expressed confidence that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa will not dampen the country’s resolve to successfully host the African Women’s Championship.

Rukoro earlier said the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the tournament had the situation under control and is working together with health authorities.

“We have people on the ground in terms of how to test for the disease and there are measures in place. They will be tested in their own countries, but also here in Namibia before they are declared as fit to compete,” Namibia Football Association Secretary-General, Barry Rukoro made the assurance.

The CAF Women Championship is a biennial competition in women’s football for national teams on the continent, and has served as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women’s World Cup every other year since its inception in 1991.

The top three teams by the end of the competition are going to represent Africa at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
