Egyptian Football Association member Hazem El-Hawari has stated that the end of Issa Hayatou's term as head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) could be good for the country.

"[New association head Ahmad] Ahmad is a good person, and we are expecting good management from him," El-Hawari told Filgoal minutes after the election results were announced Thursday.

Ahmad pulled off a stunning upset by ousting the long-serving Hayatou from the CAF in an election at the organisation's congress in Ethiopia.

The 57-year-old former government minister from Madagascar won the CAF presidency by 34 votes to 20, bringing to a surprise end the 29-year tenure of the 70-year-old Hayatou, who is from Cameroon.

"Maybe Ahmed's win is better for Egyptian football, especially after the recent complications with Hayatou," El-Hawari added.

Egypt's general prosecution referred Hayatou on Monday to the country's Economic Court on charges of violating Egypt's Competition Law in selling broadcast and sponsoring rights to French company Lagardère Sports for 20 years.
