Experienced coach Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie is backing Fatau Dauda to remain Ghana first choice goalkeeper at the 2014 Brazil World Cup finals.

Dauda’s position has come under scrutiny after spending the first half of the season on the bench of South African Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates.

He must start playing during the second half of the season or risk losing his position as number one or in the squad for the World Cup.

But Afranie, a former Black Stars coach, has jumped to his defence and insisted the former AshantiGold player must remain between the sticks.

"Fatau has been in post throughout the qualification and is necessary, we maintain him at the World Cup," Afranie is quoted by Citifmonline.com
