Beleaguered Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has opened up on reasons behind his decision to resign as the association's head.

Mr Nyantakyi was captured in an undercover investigation conducted by the TigerEye PI in which he made damning commentaries about the president of the country and his vice as well as other ministers of state.

He also received an undeserved $65,000 from the supposed businessman who was, in reality, an undercover journalist.

On Friday, Mr Nyantakyi resigned from office but not without apologizing to the president of Ghana.

His apology and resignation came a day after the government announced a dissolution of the Ghana Football Association and hours after FIFA banned the embattled football president for 90 days.

"I came from a very wretched background but through the help of God and how humble I was, I rose to the highest stage. I decided to call it a quit with Ghana football to save the country amid the controversies," Nyantakyi said in a tape obtained by Nhyira FM.

"In my village, there was no light and other social amenities to aid education but I made up my mind to make it. I came this far but one or two issues have gotten myself in controversies and I believe that resigning was the best of options.

"If I had stayed on, football would've been a standstill and that will be a shame for me. I want the best for the game and would always want it to improve so I did everything for the country even though I believe I was scammed by unscrupulous people.

"I want the youth to benefit and rather not to struggle because of any legal tussle or whatever. I've done my best and resigning will let the new generation and others remember the good works I did rather to hold on to power for the worst to happen," he added

Nyantakyi became Ghana FA boss in 2005 following the impeachment of Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, who was accused of embezzlement and lack of confidence.
