Emmanuel Frimpong red card: How Barnsley will cope without new signing

Published on: 04 February 2014
Emmanuel Frimpong saw red on his debut.

There was a great deal of excitement surrounding EmmanuelFrimpong's debut for Barnsley on Feb. 1, but that excitement quickly turned to shock as the Ghanaian midfielder was sent off to start his career with the Tykes.

According to Barnsley's official Twitter account, Frimpong was showed a red after picking up his second yellow in the 30th minute against Sheffield Wednesday.

his comes just one day after Barnsley completed a transfer deal with Arsenal, per the Gunners' official website.

Frimpong initially came to Emirates Stadium with a great deal of promise, but he never lived up to it in limited playing time at Arsenal, nor did he come through in three separate loan spells.

Despite the notion that he was misused by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger,Frimpong wished his former team well as he made the move from the EPL to the English League Championship.

Barnsley currently find themselves in the relegation zone, as they are in 23rd place with 21 points. They were obviously hoping that the 22-year-old Frimpong would provide a positive spark right off the bat, but that clearly didn't come to fruition.

This season has been a nightmarish one for the Tykes, and Frimpong's immediate ejection was a microcosm of the way things have gone for them.

With or without him, Barnsley are in a very difficult spot. They are just one point from hitting rock bottom in the standings, and they are five points out of the safety zone.

Frimpong didn't show any signs that he is the man to turn their season around.

The 2013-14 campaign is looking more and more like a lost cause forBarnsley, and a trip to Football League One in 2014-15 is a very real possibility.

The Things You Can Think, Yurtle the Turtle and Green Eggs and Ham. Tristan Kratz, drama teacher at BHS, said the students chose which stories to perform and, over approximately three or four club meetings, chose their parts, made props and rehearsed the skits. The biggest challenge is to present the stories theatrically because they are so well known visually, she said. Dr. Seuss illustrations are so integral to his work. The performances were not very complicated. One of the high-schoolers acted as a narrator, standing off to the side and reading the story, while others acted out what was happening. During Green Eggs and Ham, while Sam-I-Am is pestering the unnamed character, the actors used cutouts of a boat, house and the titular green eggs and ham to depict every scenario described in the book. The high-schoolers went to eight Ridgecrest schools over the course of the day. They performed at Las Flores, Gateway, Faller, Pierce and Inyokern elementaries as well as St. Ann s, Immanuel Christian School and the Ridgecrest Charter School.According to Kratz, Dr. Seuss Day is an event drama club members look forward to every year. She said the teens enjoy performing for the younger kids; going back to see their old teachers, principals and siblings means a lot to them. The teacher was proud of her students performances and noted how happy it made her to see them take charge of their activities. She noted her admiration for their innovative style, playfulness, collaboration and the joy they take in their work while creating theatrical productions.Dr. Seuss Day has been a tradition of the drama club for at least 15 years as a way to celebrate the author s contributions to literacy. Held on his birthday, the event is part of the National Education Association s Read Across America event. According to the NEA s website, the program is designed to help motivate children and teens to read more with a variety of events, like Dr. Seuss Day. We have much to thank Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss birth name) for, Kratz said. Not only did he give generation upon generation the gift of literacy but he also has inspired this educational community to reach out to each other every year on his birthday so that students of all ages can come together and reconnect, celebrate and inspire one another and, in many ways, thank their elementary educators for providing such a strong and fertile foundation for their secondary years. Page 2 of 2 - At the end of the performances, the club took the opportunity to promote their production of Seussical the Musical, which will be running March 13, 14, 20 and 21. They sang one of the show's songs before encouraging everyone to come out and see it. Kratz said they selected the show so young audiences and families could enjoy a night of theater designed for the younger, family-friendly crowd.
