There was a great deal of excitement surrounding EmmanuelFrimpong's debut forà Barnsleyà on Feb. 1, but that excitement quickly turned to shock as the Ghanaian midfielder was sent off to start his career with the Tykes.
According toà Barnsley's official Twitter account,à Frimpongà was showed a red after picking up his second yellow in the 30th minute against Sheffield Wednesday.
his comes just one day afterà Barnsleyà completed a transfer deal with Arsenal, per theà Gunners' official website.
Frimpongà initially came to Emirates Stadium with a great deal of promise, but he never lived up to it in limited playing time at Arsenal, nor did he come through in three separate loan spells.
Despite the notion that he was misused by Arsenal bossà Arseneà Wenger,Frimpongà wished his former team well as he made the move from the EPL to the English League Championship.
Barnsleyà currently find themselves in the relegation zone, as they are in 23rd place with 21 points. They were obviously hoping that the 22-year-old Frimpongà would provide a positive spark right off the bat, but that clearly didn't come to fruition.
This season has been a nightmarish one for the Tykes, andà Frimpong's immediate ejection was a microcosm of the way things have gone for them.
With or withoutà him,à Barnsleyà are in a very difficult spot. They are just one point from hitting rock bottom in the standings, and they are five points out of the safety zone.
Frimpongà didn't show any signs that he is the man to turn their season around.
The 2013-14 campaign is looking more and more like a lost cause forBarnsley, and a trip to Football League One in 2014-15 is a very real possibility.
