AshGold’s second round heroics in the Ghana Premier League saw them escaping the drop after the season and Enyimba FC shot stopper Fatau Dauda believes the resignation of former coach Bashiru Hayford did the magic.

The experienced goalkeeper claims the former Asante Kotoko coach took the wisest decision to resign as head coach of AshGold when the performance of the team was dwindling at an alarming rate.

"With the experience of Coach Bash, he knew he had to resign to save the club. We he resigned, things changed and the club was saved," according to Fatau.

Fatau explained that the club needed a change in their technical direction to turn around things since the players and the Bashiru Hayford-led technical team were at a loss in trying to solve the problem.

"If he had continued, the club could have been relegated. Both the players and the technical team did not know the cause of the club's challenges.

"But the resignation of coach Bash gave the team renewed energy with the arrival of some new players and a new technical team.

"Coach Bash must be applauded for taking the decision to resign," he added.

AshGold finished 10th on the table at the end of the season with 41 points, 4 points away from the relegation zone.
