Former General Secretary of Hearts of Oak Ernest Thompson has thrown his weight behind George Afriyie to become the next Ghana Football Association president.

During his 50th birthday celebration at the Mensvic Hotel over the weekend, the nation's football governing body vice Capo threw his hat into the ring to succeed Kwesi Nyantakyi in the FA' s hot seat in 2019.

According to Thompson, Mr Afriyie possesses the qualities to lead Ghana Football.

“He has enough knowledge about football. He is also well vest on how to handle the clubs so he’s really a tool for the clubs. I must also say that he’s very respectful and he deals with everybody in the same manner irrespective of the lower, middle or the upper class. You saw the kind of people who were around. They were from all walks of life."

“He’s very passionate about Ghana football. Two days ago in the evening before the Olympics game he came to the chambers and he stayed there until the night to get a good brief of the case. He was of the view that we need to move things ahead but also to ensure that we get justice. He’s very passionate. I think the sky will be the limit for him. He’s a good listener."

“But he needs to make sure he continues that character that makes him a good listener and listen to everybody."

“I’m not surprise about George declaration today because, he is a lover of the game and his passionate for the sport clearly shows it."

“George Afriyie after coming back from Asia for over 20 years has shown dedication for the game through hard work and perseverance, his interaction with his colleague club administrators is always spot on and a disciplinarian who want justice at all times.”

“Example is the ongoing impasse between the Association and Great Olympics which he will come to the chambers to seek advice from me as to how far they can expedite the case to see our football progressing to the highest level which to me is a clear indication to be a good leader who can take over the mantle from Mr. Nyantakyi.”
