Ernest Thompson rules himself out of succeeding Odotei at Hearts of Oak

Former Hearts of Oak board secretary Ernest Thompson has ruled himself out of taking up the club's chief executive position.

The role became vacant after Vincent Odotei Sowah relinquished his position to concentrate on both ministerial and parliamentarian duties.

Many of the club’s supporters are favouring Ernest Thompson for the role following his track record with the club during his time under the club’s former management.

But, the astute lawyer has ruled himself out of occupying any position in the club but he’s ready to lend his support to the club anytime they need him.

“In life, there is a time you have to say, that can I still do this thing, do I have the time, is my health okay, do I need a rest or can somebody else do it? That is the reason why I said that let me not take up this position and allow others to really do it,” Thompson told Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo sports.

“No member of the board has approach me to discuss this issue, but it is the supporters who are clamouring for me but even if they had approached me I would have respectfully decline the offer.”

“All the board members there are my close friends but I would have still decline it because I think others should also be given the chance to run the club, some of us have done what we could for the club so I think it’s time for somebody else to be given the opportunity.’

“However, whatever advise they will need from me, I am always available because once a Phobian always a Phobian, and you don’t retire from Hearts of Oak because it’s like the Army.”
