Esperance terminate Ghana AFCON striker Clottey's contract

Tunisian side Esperance have severed their contract with Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey by mutual consent, the player's former club have confirmed.

Berekum Chelsea claim the Tunis-based side failed to meet the payment plan of US$ 1.5 million transfer fee.

"Clottey got a three year contract and as a club, we were supposed to get $1.5 million as the transfer fee," the club's spokesperson Isaac Amponsah told Kumasi-based Boss FM.

"Clottey himself was to receive US$ 500,000 a year for the duration of the contract.

"However, certain restrictions prevent Esperance from paying such an amount of money directly to a club outside the country and so it meant that it would take a very long time for us to receive the money.

"That, coupled with their reluctance to pay the money, led us to contact them in a bid to terminate the contract."

Clottey moved to the dethroned African champions last year after an explosive scoring form in the 2012 CAF Champions League.

He scored 12 goals in 11 matches.

The 24-year-old, who is part of Ghana's squad at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, has been linked DR Congo side TP Mazembe and other European clubs.
