Michael Essien has bid Real Madrid an emotional farewell as he returns to English club Chelsea.

The Ghana international excelled during his season’s-long loan deal with the dethroned La Liga outfit.

The 30-year-old has rebuilt his reputation as one of the world’s most formidable midfielders following his lack of games at Chelsea during the last season.

Essien made a total of 34 appearances for Los Blancos under Jose Mourinho.

He is now set to reunite with the iconic Portuguese manager as they make their returns to Chelsea.

The Ghanaian scored in his final game for Real Madrid in the 4-2 win over Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

He undoubtedly leaves Madrid with a vastly repaired reputation.

An emotional Essien took t Twitter to say his final bye’s to the Madrid faithful.

“It’s sad to leave but I have been touched by the warm wishes from all the Real Madrid fans. Thank you and I love you all. Adios. #halamadrid (forward Madrid),” he Tweeted.

Essien still has two more years to run on his existing deal at Chelsea and one will reckon he will regain his clout with the Blues especially while playing under Jose Mourinho again.
