The Ghana FA has revealed that Michael Essien’s inclusion in the Black Stars squad for June’s World Cup will not depend on his club future at Chelsea.

Essien is believed to be nearing a move away from Stamford Bridge this January after struggling to hold down a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s team this term.

The agent of the Ghanaian international confirmed last week that the 31-year-old is set to quit the Blues with a number of stellar clubs watching with keen interest.

United Arab Emirates side Al Ain are believed to have launched an audacious bid to sign the former Lyon man with English championship side Middlesbrough believed to be interested.

However Ghana FA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara says Essien’s inclusion in the squad will not be dependent on his move from the English giants.

“Michael is already a key player of the Black Stars and that is not to say that his position is 100% cast in iron but the thing is that he is in the position to judge where and see where he wants to take his career to,” Darra is quoted by CampioneSports.net

“Whatever decision Michael takes to foster his career, the Ghana Football Association will wholeheartedly support him. “

Essien, who joined Chelsea in 2005, has featured only 8 times in 24 matches in all competitions this season.
