Uefa Europa League might have lured Ghana international midfielder Anthony Annan to join Finnish side HJK Helsinki on transfer deadline day on a one-year-contract.

The 28-year-old was a free agent after leaving German giants Schalke 04 last season but did not join a new club until the transfer deadline day.

Annan's choice to move to Finland might have been influence by HJK's qualification to the group stages of the Uefa Europa League.

HJK have also beefed with their squad by signing Burkina Faso star attacker Ariste Bance.

Annan has played in the Uefa Champions League with Rosenborg BK and while at Schalke 04 and will be keen to use platform to recapture his form.

HJK are in the same Europa League group with Belgian side Club Brugge, FC Copenhagen and Torino.

Annan joins former Asante Kotoko full-back Gideon Baah at the club.
